Salvation Army Harbour Light Lunch Service

Dear Mini School Parents and Students,

This year, the Grade 12 Class will be volunteering at the Salvation Army Harbour Light Detox Facility in the downtown east side to donate the funds raised at the Annual Christmas Potluck, serve lunch, and clean up after the Lunch Service.  Last year, 400 persons were served in the two hour service. This event fits perfectly with the Mini School Social Responsibility Pillar.

The date for this event will be Monday, March 14th, 2011.  The students will leave after first block and return for the end of the school day.

The donation we will take down this year is approximately $1000.  This amount is the largest to date!  Thank you all for your hard work and generosity for a great cause.

This is also an opportunity for our students to engage in human centered and emotional learning as they work alongside individuals who have endured a difficult life path.  New this year will be a personal sharing session with 1-2 of the individuals in the detox program after the lunch service.

In previous years, the staff of the  Salvation Army have been incredibly appreciative of our efforts, and the students thoroughly enjoyed the volunteer experience.  It is a win-win event all the way around!
