Dear Parents and Students of the Mini School,
Many of you have been wondering how a possible teachers’ strike might affect the upcoming Mini School events. Although we don’t yet know whether or not the strike will escalate, we wanted our parents and students to be prepared for how the Mini School will function if teachers indeed escalate their strike action to a full walk-out. Below is some information regarding our upcoming events:
Gr. 7 Out-of-catchment Interviews at McNair – Feb. 29 and Mar.1, 2012
If you are an out-of-catchment student who is applying for next year’s grade 8 Mini School class, your interview and assessment session has been scheduled for Feb. 29 or Mar. 1, 2012. These dates still apply and we are looking forward to meeting with you at your specified interview time. Please contact Ms. Hunt at 604-668-6575 or email@example.com if you have further questions regarding the out-of-catchment interview process.
Mini School Group Interaction Dates at McNair — Mar 6 and 7, 2012 (3:30 – 4:45pm)
If you are applying for next year’s grade 8 Mini School class, you have been assigned a day to visit McNair and participate in a group interaction workshop with the other applicants.
If we were to go into a full strike in the coming week, we would most likely not be able to carry out these workshops. The Mini School staff would make an effort to postpone this part of the application process, but we don’t yet know if this will be possible. More information will be posted and sent home as soon as it becomes available. Please stay tuned for our action plan.
Grade 8-12 Spring Trips
Although a lot of what we can say right now is speculation, the Mini School staff has been planning a Spring Trip for each of the Mini School classes. Some of the dates and/or trip activities may need to be adjusted to deal with the special restrictions we are dealing with this year. While we are hopeful that Job Action will be resolved before our Spring trips, we have no way of knowing for sure if this will be the case. Please be patient as we make our tentative plans for each class trip. More information will be sent home as it becomes available. If you have any questions about our Spring trips, please contact Ms. Gin at 604 668 6575 or at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Thank you for your patience and understanding during this eventful time. Despite the disruptions to our regular Mini School program, please know that our staff remain committed to providing our students with the best possible education and opportunities.
Ms. Gin on behalf of the Mini School Staff
